Last month I had the pleasure of visiting London. I travelled with British Airways in one of their A380’s!! I felt like a proper badass when we taxied to the runway, past all of the other small planes. I spent the entire flight watching movies, “How to be single” and “Deadpool”. I also watched two episodes of Alan Partridge’s “Mid Morning Matters”. I was so excited about the trip that I didn’t even get any sleep.
London is amazing, it’s vibrant, walkable, incredibly photogenic and the food is delicious! I stayed with my aunt and uncle (who don’t seem to age at all) for the first two days. I finally got to meet my beautiful cousin Emma. I wish I could babysit her every single weekend. While exploring with my fam I spotted a Spar shop. I had no idea that they were in the UK so obviously I had to get a snap in front of it. We went to Westfield Stradford and OMG the variety of shops are insane. We also went to the Olympic park.
*Dum Dum Dum* – Dramatic drum sound haha
Finally after what seems like forever I met up with my favorite person in the entire universe! We immediately went to the nearest Starbucks to get our coffee fix for the day, hopped on the tube to Waterloo Station and went into Dora the Explorer mode. I got so excited every time I saw a big red bus or the iconic red telephone box. I got to take so many touristy selfies, my one with Big Benny was a favorite! By the way most of the cool photos in this post were taken by Ollie; he’s got a lekker eye when it comes to taking cool snaps. We walked through St. James’s Park, saw cute ducks and obviously took loads of selfies with them. Next up was Buckingham Palace; it felt so unreal walking up to the palace as I’ve only ever seen it on TV or in movies, etc. The guards are so cool!
Another thing I absolutely love is that all of the traditions are respected and are carried out until this day. We also went to Harrods. I’ve never seen such an organized mall in my entire life. After a long day of exploring we went to the hotel and had a pizza party. I finally got to watch Ricky Gervais’ movie, “Special Correspondence”! That man is an absolute legend!
The next day we made our way to Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus & Covent Garden. We went inside the M&M store and it’s insane, any chocolate lover’s dream.
Ladies and Gentleman I got to walk on my favorite bridge! Yes, I have a favorite bridge. We also saw a Pomeranian pup while walking. So I basically got to look at three of my fave things at the same time, lucky neh? Haha.
Skye Garden was next, after going through what felt like airport security. (Another thing I love about London is the security, you feel safe everywhere you go.) I till this day don’t quite understand how they keep all those pretty plants alive, but they’re doing an excellent job. The views are incredible! We got loads of cool photos. After a lekker cup of hot chocolate we decided to call it a day. On the way to the hotel I spotted Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and got the cookie dough flavor.
(@BenAndJerrys please ship yourselves to South Africa, thanks)
Up next was Kensington Palace. We tried on a jacket from 1818 if I remember correctly. Olls looked mighty fine in it if I do say so myself. After mochas and scones we went for lunch at Wagamama, I had duck for the first time! My tatsebuds exploded and cheered for every bite that I took.
We also took super cute selfies at Trafalgar Square, saw loads of buskers and one super cool street artist (He was a literal street artist, drawing on the pavement with what seemed like chalk) He was pretty good to be honest.
Friday night was spent fine dining at The Shard; you can read more about that later…
Those nine days went by so fast! I hated every second of saying goodbye, but I can promise you that I’ll be back soon! I’m going to miss my boy Big Ben way too much. Thanks to everyone that made the trip so special 🙂
Here are a few of my fav foodie spots:
Nandos – They’re so much healthier than the Nandos in SA
